Tiny, but delivers great sound quality!

X mini XAM14 GM Mono Capsule Speaker

X mini XAM14 GM Mono Capsule Speaker

I ordered these because I wanted a portable speaker for camping trips and the beach, I have done tons of research and watched many youtube videos on different types of speakers out there. I ended up buying these as well as the iHome iHM60 to compare since they are half the price and also heard great reviews. At first glance the iHome was louder and a little more bassy but after playing a few different genres including pop, rock, reggae and a little country, you start to appreciate the clarity in the UNO, it's much more crisp and the iHome sounded muddy. Of course they don't compare to my nice big stereo at home but for portable speakers these definitely fit the bill. I bought two of them for more fullness, also I never heard the x-mini II but I chose these ones because of the ceramic speaker, which is found in high end speakers. Pick these up, you won't be disappointed.

  1. I already own another X-mini speaker. I conducted the comparison side-by-side. While it was fun to watch the earlier version dance and skitter across the table while playing "immigrant's Song" (the Kathy O and Trent Reznor version), the bass sounded richer and smoother in the X-mini UNO. The sound clarity was also better in this new version. The gun metal look adds to the appearance. The speaker, when opened, is approximately half and inch higher than the older version. Overall, better sound, especially at the louder volumes.

I used this speaker in a boardroom and those who attended the meeting couldn't believe how they could crank up the sound. A little distortion, but again, comparing it to the earlier versions, negligible.

Great for travel, the office, even the backyard.

  2. It is so hard to believe that a speaker of this quality can fit in the palm of my hand!

This is my second x-mini pocket sized capsule speaker. I bought my first last November for my security camera, but tested it on my cell phone and laptop and was pleasantly surprised and am still happy with it; however, when this new and improved product became available, I jumped at the chance to get it.

While the new product is $17 more expensive than the $23 version, the ceramic driver delivers an even crisper and clearer sound than the first one. I have a hard time telling the difference between it and my much more expensive Bose speakers.

Like its predecessor, its loudspeaker output is 2.5 Watts, the Frequency Response is 150 Hz -20 KHz as compared to the former's100 Hz - 20 kHz, 200dB while the newer version is slightly heavier at 112 vice 83 grams net weight.

This speaker is a lot of bang for the buck and perfect for my use; however, I am not sure how much use I will get out of it because my wife has it at work. Here's what she says:

"First of all just let me say I am no audiophile but I love to listen to music. It speaks to my soul and addresses my many moods.

I was fortunate to be able to listen to the X- "Capsule Speaker- mini sound beyond size "UNO" an audio revolution in a box.

This compact portable speaker delivers a clean, clear and crisp sound that delighted my ears. This little box delivers great sound quality from a smooth jazz to mellow you out or to a hard rocking get your pulse "jumpin" "I wanna" dance, or an aria so beautiful you get tears in your eyes.

While at work I attached it to my iphone and noticed the immediate difference.

The battery charges through my computer within 2.5 hours, USB charging cables are included and the charge lasts up to 20 hours or if you prefer, you can keep your charge by leaving it plugged into your computer while attaching it to your cell phone, laptop, tablet, portable game stations or media players."

This speaker folds up like an accordion and comes with a carry pouch and charging cable. It also can be easily daisy chained and used in conjunction with other mini-speakers.

I am amazed and very pleased by the sound, size and quality of this product and I think you will be too.

    Enjoy!

  3. I am not so sure I can tell if this version of the X-mini UNO produces a whole lot better sound than earlier models, but the low frequency sound may be more pronounced. I am a bit hard of hearing and perhaps not the best judge of such things. Expanding the speaker to the open position improves the sound slightly, but it isn't necessary to do that because it works just fine in the closed 'ball' configuration.

Anyhow those little speakers are really quite good for amplifying music, YouTube videos and SKYPE /FaceTime conversations.

I have made several tests of the X-mini UNO XAM14-GM Mono Capsule Speaker and compared it to an earlier model. It looks about the same and has all of the same connections. It has an onboard volume control like the older versions. It can be connected in tandem with other X-mini speakers.

The improvements in this speaker are apparently technological ones. The appearance and physical function is about the same as previous models.

The battery charges quickly and it is supposed to provide power for 18 hours, but I have not been able to verify that yet.

I thought it might just be the same old speaker in a new color, but I was impressed with this latest version in the following ways:

    1. It seemed to be better in fit and finish.
    2. The little, easily broken, lid is gone--good.
    3. The low range sound is noticeably better than found in earlier versions.
    4. The gun metal color is darker than pictures indicate, but it is very attractive nonetheless.
    5. Works great as an amplifier for most devices with a standard head phone jack.

The X-mini UNO XAM14-GM Mono Capsule Speaker is an excellent gadget with a variety of uses and it is an improved model in a number of inconspicuous ways.

  4. Being used to the fact that size can't possibly deliver quality sound in speakers, I did not expect much from this little capsule as I opened the package. The features are very alluring - the built in lithium battery that claims a life of 18+hrs and USB charging were top on my list. So I plugged this little thing to my iPod, set it on a table and, to my surprise, the X-mini is not only more than loud enough, it also delivers very good sound quality. The vibrating bass expansion chamber works wonders on a table; while this is not subwoofer quality bass, it is more than enough to color the sound produced by the ceramic speaker to make it sound much warmer. The overall sound quality feels like it is coming from a quality speaker at least twice its size, if not more. A nice feature is the Buddy Jack system which allows more than one of these X-mini speakers to be linked together. The quality of the demo item I got through Vine convinced me to buy a second one on my won to use for my laptop docking station. They are much smaller in size than the desktop speakers they are replacing and offer much better sound - it is fuller, more crisp and they also look much cooler overall.

  5. I own a "iHome Rechargeable Mini Speaker" since 2009, which looks similar to this and everyone was amazed by the sound that comes out of this small speaker in those days. Four years later, I expect much more improvements on a similar size speakers like this, but this speaker doesn't give me louder sound than my Droid Bionic smart phone. However, the sound is much richer and the base is much stronger than that of the smart phone. That's what make this speaker worthwhile to own--not for its loudness, but for its richness of sound. It's good enough for a small room presentation, such as to show a movie clip in a conference room of up to fifteen or even twenty people.

The hardware feels well built, even though it's plastic, but strong plastic.

The built-in cable makes it very convenient because you don't have to worry about carrying another cable for it, but only three inches long--good enough for the convenience but I wish it's a little longer so that I have more feasibility in placing the speaker. It comes with a nice little pouch and USB charging cable with an audio plug.

Over all this speaker is fun, cute, and convenient to own.

  7. The X-mini Uno Capsule Speaker slogan is "Sound Beyond Size." In the broadest sense of terms, this is quite true. The Uno packs a wallop for such a small device. Despite it's 3 inch height, the sound delivered is quite clear and crisp. Bass is surprisingly good, as are the mid-range and high-end tones. I have used it now on my PC and my laptop. I have cranked it all the way to 100% volume on a selection of genres (pop, rock, country, jazz) and there has been no distortion. Though I will also check it out on some additional selections, such as hip hop, classical, blues and electronic, I am definitely impressed with this unit. The device itself has an on-off switch and it's own volume control.

I like the fact that the attached 3.5mm audio plug can, and does, wrap under the speaker. That means I will at least not lose that. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery is a nice feature, allowing up to 20 hours of non-stop music. That is the claim from the manufacturer, though I have not gone quite that long. The additional included charging cable is 24 inches long and has a mini-usb connector to attach to the UNO and, at the 24 inch mark, a standard 3.5mm plug to connect to your device, while the regular size USB connector (for charging, between 2-2.5 hours for that) is on about 8 inches of cord. Top it off with a small carrying pouch/bag and you are set to take the UNO anywhere you want.

I am toying with the idea of getting some more of these as they will connect to each other through the Buddy Jack feature. Not sure yet, but may be worth it to be able to travel and provide some great sound without taking much space. As small as it is, it gets smaller when compressed for travel or storage. With a simple twist, it pops up and is ready to play. Definitely recommended for anyone who would like to expand their current iPad, tablet, etc., etc., device sound level.
