Yamaha RX V773WA 7 2 Channel Receiver wireless

Yamaha RX V773WA 7 2 Channel Receiver wireless

I had originally order a Onkyo receiver after using it for a few month I started having issues with the Hdmi outs I researched on web and saw that many people were having the same problems. I can't believe that the Onkyo company has not addressed these problems. Because of that I decided to return this unit. I would like to add that I was past my window of returning this without a penalty. I did chat with Amazon and they waived the penalty gave me Rma ticket to return this unit. Thank you Amazon for that I think that is good business and because they did that I made sure to purchase my next unit from them. I ordered a Yamaha Rx-V773Wa set it up quickly and it works great. The only issue I had is that when you do firmware upgrade. I attempted to use the upgrade threw the wireless internet connection but during the upgrade power to the wireless unit that is plugged into USB on the back of the receiver is shut down.I was able to correct the problem by downloading the firmware upgrade to my computer and putting it on a thumb drive and plugging into the receiver on the front USB port and that worked fine. The speaker set up with there mike and sound program works great the sound from this unit is powerful and crystal clear. The hdmi outputs work flawlessly I have one hdmi to main TV and the other to Epson projector. Good bye to Onkyo Hello Yamaha!!!

  1. Initially I was looking at Onkyo since my last one lasted 10 years and is still going strong but all the hdmi issues I've read about frightened me. I ended up deciding to go Yamaha because they seem very well made and the reviews on the 773,673,573 models mostly seemed really good.

I picked up the 7065 at Costco, which is exact same receiver as the 773 except without the wireless adapter. I can't comment on that but I have it connected via Ethernet and networking works well. All in all I love this receiver. It's amazing how much receiver tech has changed in 10 years. I hooked up my speakers and ran the Yamaha setup tool and it really woke up my Klipsch and JBLs. Much cleaner sound than my 10 year old Onkyo was cranking out. I have speakers in my kitchen so wanted the zone 2 feature with AirPlay and it works great. I can turn the receiver on from my iPhone while I'm cooking and rock out without affecting people watching tv in the living room. The receiver did not have Pandora which was disappointing but a couple days after hooking up it said a firmware update was available and afterwards there was Pandora, Rhapsody and Sirius radio. This thing seems loaded with features and I've probably barely scratched the surface but the main things I was looking for were a great sound and airplay/zone 2 functionality and this baby has fully delivered.

  2. Over the last 40 years I have continued to upgrade my sound system, this time for 3-D pass through from my BlueRay player. Got a whole lot more than that, as the sound from this one is beyond what I expected. Wireless too for firmware updates. Strong sound with all the features you could possibly want. I just wish the remote was a bit larger and back lit, but other than that this is a real buy!!

  3. I love this unit. It works very well and it does everything it is supposed to do. The only problem I have is Airplay. Airplay constantly disconnects and stops playing. It happens with my iPhone (all 3 of them), and iPad. So I am not sure if it is an Apple problem or Yamaha problem, (so I did not deduct a star for that) but there is definitely something wrong with Airplay. Other than that, it came with proper packaging, user manual is little long and difficult to read (so it is not like an Apple product) but the product has so many features, I am not sure if it can be made simpler. But basic setup is very easy and you can have it up and running in less than 30 minutes with the basic setup. Once you set it up properly, it turns on automatically when you turn on your TV, and it turns off automatically when you turn off your TV. Your TV volume also adjusts the volume of the unit (as expected). I highly recommend this unit. It is not cheap but it is priced nicely for all the features you get from this product, and you will not get a better receiver with all these features at a lower price IMO. I am sure you can get a cheaper receiver if you do not need all the features, but wireless makes it worth the money IMO. Therefore, I say it is good value as well.

  4. Integrated seamlessly into my overall av setup. Easy to use.

Perhaps the best thing about the Yamaha is its sound quality. Being a true audiophile with a dedicated stereo sound room, dedicated to a Linn Sondek turntable, I am truly impressed with its sound quality. It is truly first class, and with a good set of speakers, proper cabling and proper source, I will blow our mind.

    Good one Yamaha.

  5. Bought this for my living room setup. Its plugged into a Vizio 3D TV, LG 3D Bluray, and a Wii (though the Wii video goes directly to the TV). Speakers are ten year old Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 with a passive subwoofer. The sound is magnificent. It handles the sawtooth synth tones of TRON 3D beautifully, and explosions from Transformers with aplomb. Digitally Imported (net radio) sounds fine despite being 96k mp3 streams.

iOS: Like many devices (my car for example), the Yamaha puts my iPhone into "Connected" mode when I plug it in, so that I have to use the Yamaha to control the music. I suppose it makes sense for remote control operated management, but I tend to navigate to a track and then let it play, and the iPhone's interface is far better. So instead I use the rear USB jack, which only provides power, and run the iPhone over AirPlay. It has the advantage that I can pick up the phone and use it for other things. Using AirPlay does not seem to significantly reduce battery life. In fact, I rarely plug it in.

The Yamaha app for iOS is fairly well done. I can control everything from the phone, including starting net radio. There was a weird website I had to go to to set up favorites (you can't just bookmark them in the app) but after that it was pretty sorted. Its great that I can be in my study, or the garage, or anywhere within wifi range, and control the amp. My only peeve is that I can't put in my passwords to get commercial free Digitally Imported.

HDMI Audio Return: My Bluray doesn't have Amazon Instant Video, but my TV does. The Yamaha gets 5.1 audio from the TV via the Audio Return on the single HDMI cable to the TV.

Actually I bought the HTR-7065, which is apparently the same, but without the wifi adapter.
